Lot Essay

This vase is distinguished by its impressive scale and boldly cast decoration. A comparable but smaller faceted bronze vase (50.2 cm), dated to the 17th–18th century and lacking both the elaborate decoration and gilt accents, was sold at Christie’s New York, 20 September 2005, lot 135.
