Lot Essay

The current bowls are decorated with four ruyi-bordered roundels enclosing four stylized characters in seal script reading wanshou wujiang (boundless long life), surrounded by lotus scroll and the Eight Buddhist Emblems (bajixiang). For other Qianlong mark-and-period blue-and-white bowls of this design, see the example illustrated in Treasures in the Royalty: The Official Kiln Porcelain of the Chinese Qing Dynasty, Shanghai, p. 309, and the bowl sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 29 May 2019, lot 3167.
