Lot Essay

Purchased from New Kings Road Vintage Guitar Emporium in 1996, Marr used this Gibson ES-345 extensively in the studio to write and demo new material for Electronic’s third and final studio album Twisted Tenderness through the mid to late 90s. Marr was photographed with the guitar at London’s Mayfair Studios in October 1996 for a cover feature in the January 1997 issue of The Guitar Magazine. As part of the feature, interviewer Michael Leonard notes that Although Marr used a red Gibson ES355 throughout his time with The Smiths, his Gibson ES345 is a more current favourite. The guitar remains a favourite some thirty years later, as Marr told us: I really, really, really love that guitar, and I played it a lot.
