Lot Essay

Johnny Marr acquired this Austin 12-string directly from Auden in 2019. Doves’ frontman Jimi Goodwin, who played bass on Electronic’s third album Twisted Tenderness, accompanied Marr on this guitar when he appeared as a special guest on the final night of the Call The Comet Tour at Manchester’s Albert Hall on 5 September 2019 to perform The Smiths’ songs ‘Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want’ and ‘There Is a Light That Never Goes Out’. Marr kept the guitar for occasional studio use and later collaborated with Auden to create his own signature JM Black Series Austin 6-string and 12-string guitars in 2021. Speaking to Guitar World in 2022, Marr enthused: There’s this company in the U.K. called Auden that makes these beautiful 12-strings, all handmade.
