Descriptif du lot

Travelers pause along the mountain road at dusk, while the distant landscape dissolves into a soft veil of atmospheric haze. The indistinct forms of the mountains and trees create a remarkable sense of depth, while lending the scene a quiet, dreamlike quality. This delicate treatment of the background demonstrates Hiroshige’s ability to use kasumi (haze) not merely to suggest distance, but also to evoke the transient atmosphere of the mountainous landscape.
