At 13 Pont Neuf, in the building located on the left, was the renowned optical firm Lerebours et Secrétan, supplier of instruments to the pioneers of photography. Gustave Le Gray, Jean-Gabriel Eynard, Maxime Du Camp, and Marville himself, who used one of their lenses, all obtained their equipment there.
Around 1852, Marville also made a view of this storefront from another vantage point, now preserved at the Musée Carnavalet. As early as 1846, Lerebours et Secrétan published a Traité de photographie, contributing to the refinement of the daguerreotype process. Around 1850, Noël Paymal Lerebours also established a portrait studio at the top of this building.
In the foreground appear the Bains des Fleurs, a floating bathing establishment moored on the Seine opposite the Conciergerie.
