Descriptif du lot

No other hexagonal jar of this form, bearing comparable decoration and a Jiajing mark, appears to have been published. Decoration of five-clawed dragons leaping amid lotus scrolls is more commonly found on smaller, square Jiajing jars, such as an example in the Shanghai Museum, illustrated in Mingdai guanyao ciqi, Shanghai, 2007, p. 45, no. 1-55. Given its hexagonal form, the present jar would have required a higher level of technical skill to produce.
