NOTE:
This paintings formerly belonged to Aage Niels Bohr (1922-2009), a distinguished Danish physicist and professor at the University of Copenhagen. His father Niels Bohr, was also a world-renowned physicist. In 1975, Aage Bohr was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in recognition of his outstanding contributions to research on the internal structure of the atom.
Niels Bohr frequently visited China as a scholar and delivered seven lectures there in 1937. His son, Aage Bohr, travelled to China in 1962 in an official capacity and established a research exchange mechanism between China and Denmark. During his stay in Beijing in 1973, Aage Bohr purchased this painting at Rongbaozhai, and it was preserved by his family until 2014.
The recipient Disheng refers to Wu Disheng, namely Wu Yan, courtesy name Disheng. A renowned bamboo carver of the Republican period, Wu was also accomplished in painting, calligraphy, and seal carving. He was a disciple of both Shou Xi and Qi Baishi.
