Further details
Zhang Daqian (1899-1983) shared a close friendship with Yu Youren (1879-1964) and longstanding ties with the Zhang family, later related to the Yu family by marriage. Zhang Chengji’s (1920-1988) father, Zhang Dulun (1894-1958), was a prominent Republican-era official who served in Sichuan and Xikang during the Second Sino-Japanese War. While in Sichuan, Zhang Daqian was already acquainted with Zhang Dulun and his wife, Shen Shouzhen. In 1948, Zhang Chengji married Yu Youren’s daughter, Yu Nianci, formally linking the two families by marriage. The three paintings of the collection were respectively dedicated to Shen Shouzhen, Zhang Chengji ,and Yu Nianci. Spanning two generations, they trace Zhang Daqian’s ties with both families and preserve a rare record of family provenance.
