Distinguished from representations of Shakyamuni by his crown and rich jewellery, this finely gilded image depicts Amoghasiddhi, the Buddha of the North. Identified by his right hand raised in the gesture of reassurance (abhaya mudra), Amoghasiddhi, whose name means “Almighty Conqueror,” is venerated for guiding devotees beyond jealousy. Amoghasiddhi is further identified by the visvavajra, or double vajra, placed before him atop the lotus base. The style of the crown, jewellery, and lotus pedestal closely relates to a bronze image of Amitayus in the British Museum (von Schroeder, Indo-Tibetan Bronzes, Hong Kong, 1981, p. 440, no. 118B).

The sculpture displays a powerfully modelled torso, conveying both strength and spiritual authority. Framing the figure are long, prominent braids that fall gracefully over the shoulders, a distinctive feature that enhances its commanding presence. Equally striking is the treatment of the lower garment, which is adorned with finely detailed bands of floral textile ornament, demonstrating the exceptional precision and sophistication of the craftsman.
