Lot Essay

A silver bowl decorated with figures of ladies at the public bath (hammam), in a private collection, is attributed to Kayseri in central Turkey (Garo Kurkman, Ottoman Silver Marks, Istanbul, 1996, p.234). An early, fine example from around 1800, was sold in these Rooms, 22 April 2016, lot 373. Ours are slightly later and larger, with an example from this group being sold in these Rooms, 19 November 2015, lot 74.
