Lot Essay

The approx. knot count is 8V x 8H per sq.cm.

This silk Feshane rug represents the high artistic and technical standards of Ottoman imperial weaving during the late Ottoman period. Produced at the Feshane-i Âmire workshops in Istanbul, these carpets were woven under state supervision and were intended for palaces, official residences, and elite patrons. For a discussion of these, see Önder Küçükerman and Sevim Arslan, 'From Feshane to the palace', HALI, Issue 211, pp.106-111.
