Descrizione dettagliata lotto
An incredibly exciting find for Patek Philippe collectors, this stunning ruby-set Celestial Joaillerie reference 6104/12G-010 is, to the best of our knowledge, the only publicly known example with an 18k white gold case. Christie’s is therefore extremely honoured and excited to now unveil this incredible fresh to the market new discovery. Until now, only platinum and pink gold cased versions of the Celestial Joaillerie were known to exist. Perhaps made as a unique off-catalogue piece for a very important client, this astonishing 18k white gold Grand Complication is accompanied by the full set of accessories. A most significant discovery among contemporary Patek Philippe, remarkably it has remained unknown, undocumented, and undiscovered in a private collection for almost a decade. Simply breathtaking in both its sheer beauty and complexity, the bezel is set with a total of 60 deep vibrant red baguette-cut rubies weighing around 6.23 carats, 38 set on the bezel, and the matching clasp set with a further 22 baguette-cut rubies.
Unquestionably one of the ultimate rarities of Patek Philippe’s modern production, the appearance of the present watch, fittingly set with rubies, for this special Christie’s 40th Anniversary in Asia auction, affords Patek Philippe collectors and connoisseurs the perhaps once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire one of the rarest, most attractive and most important individual specimens of the magnificent Celestial Joaillerie Astronomical Grand Complication.
Reference 6104 was launched in 2010. Successor of the legendary reference 5102, this hugely complicated outstanding astronomical wristwatch borrows the principle of showing the celestial canopy from the most complicated wristwatch ever produced by Patek Philippe - reference 5002 Sky Moon Tourbillon. The nocturnal sky of the northern hemisphere rotates to show the apparent angular motion of the stars and moon as well as the progression of the phases of the moon. Hours and minutes are displayed by two pierced white hands. A delicate elliptical contour on the inside of the glass frames the portion of the sky that can be seen from all cities that share the latitude of Geneva. Reference 6104 features a slightly larger case with an additional date indication via an additional hand with red crescent tipped hands.
Without doubt one of Patek Philippe’s most intricate and impressive creations, reference 6104 combines immense mechanical complication with amazing aesthetics and readability.
