Lot Essay

Introduced in 1994 as part of the landmark revival of A. Lange & Söhne, the Saxonia was among the four inaugural models that marked the rebirth of the historic Glashütte manufacture. Conceived as the purest expression of Saxon watchmaking, the collection combined understated elegance with exceptional mechanical refinement, establishing the design language that continues to define the manufacture today.

The present reference 105.022, cased in yellow gold, is an especially elegant example of the model. Its beautifully balanced silvered dial is distinguished by the manufacture's signature oversized date display, harmoniously counterbalanced by the recessed small seconds at 6 o'clock. Blued steel hands provide a refined contrast against the warm tones of the dial, while the restrained layout perfectly reflects the clarity and precision that characterise A. Lange & Söhne's design philosophy.

Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback is the hand-wound calibre L941.3, a movement that exemplifies the very highest standards of German high watchmaking. Its untreated German silver three-quarter plate, hand-engraved balance cock, blued screws, gold chatons, and immaculate hand-finishing showcase the extraordinary craftsmanship for which the manufacture is celebrated.
