Launched in 2012, the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar represents one of A. Lange & Söhne's most technically accomplished creations, bringing together two of high watchmaking's most prestigious complications within the unmistakable asymmetric architecture of the Lange 1. The present example, cased in 18k pink gold and paired with a beautifully balanced silvered dial, is offered with its full set of accessories and has been carefully preserved in immaculate condition.
At its heart is the extraordinary self-winding calibre L082.1, fitted with a 21k gold rotor and finished to the exceptional standards for which the Glashütte manufacture is renowned. In an unusually restrained approach, the tourbillon is deliberately concealed from the dial side and can only be admired through the sapphire crystal caseback, preserving the purity and legibility of the Lange 1 display. The tourbillon is furthermore equipped with A. Lange & Söhne's patented stop-seconds mechanism, allowing the balance inside the rotating cage to be halted when the crown is pulled, enabling the watch to be set precisely to the second.
Despite the formidable mechanical complexity beneath, the dial presents its numerous indications with remarkable clarity. Lange's signature oversized date occupies its familiar position at 10 o'clock, while the day of the week is indicated by a retrograde hand at 9 o'clock. Most ingeniously, the months are displayed on a rotating peripheral ring, with the current month indicated at 6 o'clock, immediately below the leap-year indication. The moon-phase display, integrated with the small seconds at 8 o'clock, is calculated to remain accurate for 122.6 years before requiring a correction of one day, while a discreet day/night indication is incorporated into the main time display.
Very rarely encountered at auction, the present pink gold Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar showcases A. Lange & Söhne's watchmaking at its most sophisticated. Combining exceptional finishing, ingenious mechanics and the unmistakable design language of the Lange 1, it represents an undoubted masterpiece of the modern Glashütte manufacture.
