Lot Essay

Encapsulating the timeless elegance and refined simplicity for which Cartier is renowned, the present beautiful circular wristwatch is distinguished by its classically styled and highly legible matte gold dial, adorned with delicate sunray engine-turned decoration and contrasting black Roman numerals and hands. The harmonious proportions and understated sophistication of its design perfectly reflect the Maison’s enduring aesthetic principles.

The case was crafted by the celebrated Geneva master casemaker Georges Croisier, whose distinctive maker’s mark, depicting the number ‘5’ within a key, is stamped on the inside of the caseback. The Cartier serial number '025163' is engraved on the back of the upper right lug. Of particular interest is the presence of the double French ‘owl’ (hibou) gold importation hallmark on the caseback, a mark applied to gold watches imported into France for retail sale. This detail provides a further indication of the watch’s history and its intended destination within the French market.
