When Rolex introduced the celebrated GMT-Master II in 18-carat white gold at Baselworld in 2014, its appeal was immediate. The substantial weight of the precious-metal case gives the watch a distinctly luxurious presence while retaining the easy-wearing and sporty character for which the GMT-Master has long been admired. Its iconic blue and red ‘Pepsi’ bezel takes inspiration from the vintage reference 6542, yet is rendered in modern ceramic rather than Bakelite. Highly resistant to scratches and colour fading, the ceramic insert offers a contemporary interpretation of one of Rolex’s most recognisable designs.
The model also offers enhanced functionality. The bidirectional bezel rotates in one-hour increments, allowing the wearer to simultaneously read up to three time zones: home time via the 24-hour hand, local time via the conventional hour hand, and a third time zone through the rotatable bezel. The date display is synchronised with local time, ensuring that the aperture always indicates the correct date at the wearer’s location.
