Introduced in 2006, the Patek Philippe World Time reference 5130 succeeded the reference 5110, which had been in production since 2000. While preserving the elegant Calatrava-inspired design of its predecessor, the new reference featured a larger 39.5 mm. case in place of the earlier 37 mm. diameter. This increase in size allowed Patek Philippe to widen the rotating city ring displaying the 24 world time zones, significantly improving legibility while enhancing the watch's presence on the wrist.
Deeply inspired by the celebrated reference 1415, Patek Philippe's first serially produced World Time wristwatch, introduced in the late 1930s in collaboration with Louis Cottier, the reference 5130 combines historical design cues with contemporary refinement. The dial is distinguished by a beautifully executed guilloché sunburst centre, while the applied hour markers lend the watch a more dynamic and modern character. Completing the design is the signature ring-shaped hour hand, an element reserved exclusively for Patek Philippe's World Time models and inspired by the globe itself, perfectly reflecting the spirit of international travel that defines the complication.
