Lot Essay

Stools of this large size are often referred to as ‘meditation stools’ as their size allows the user to sit on them cross-legged. These large stools were made in various designs, such as the huanghuali example sold in the Flacks Family Collection, Part II: Curtain Call; Christie’s London, 12 May 2026, lot 30, which is fitted with a rare panel of S-shaped struts between the stretchers and the seat.
