Lot Essay

The present well-proportioned kang table features a distinctive triple molded top frame and a protruding ridge, called tuosai, below the waist above a cusped apron finely carved with floral scroll. The cabriole legs are carved at top with animal masks and terminate in hoof feet. It is rare to find kang tables of this refined quality. A huanghuali kang table of comparable proportions raised on cabriole legs terminating in claw feet and carved with striding chilong on the apron was sold at Christie’s New York, 13 September 2019, lot 873.
