Lot Essay

The Ref. 5060A holds a singular place in Patek Philippe's modern history: it is the very first Aquanaut. Introduced in 1996 and produced for only a short window before being replaced by the Ref. 5066, it established an entirely new design language for the maison—one that was youthful, sporty, and unmistakably contemporary.

The present example is a first-series 5060 in stainless steel, distinguished by details found only on the earliest Aquanauts. Production of the Ref.5060 is widely understood to have been limited to approximately 1,000 pieces. As the inaugural Aquanaut, it has become increasingly sought after by collectors seeking the origins of one of Patek Philippe's most important modern collections.
