Lang & Heyne is a small German manufacture based in Dresden, producing only a few hundred watches each year. The firm is highly regarded for its traditional craftsmanship, hand-finished movements, and classic Saxon aesthetics. The Hektor, launched in 2021, marked a significant departure: it was Lang & Heyne's first sports wristwatch in stainless steel with an integrated bracelet, demonstrating a new direction for the brand.
The Hektor is offered in a limited total edition of 99 pieces, with only 33 examples produced in each of three dial colours: silver blue, silver grey, and silver green.
The present example features the silver blue dial, the dial is defined by the recurring "Petticoat" design motif. The centre features a repetitive pattern inspired by the petticoat shape, while the chapter ring bears concentric grooves that add visual depth. Applied hour markers and hands are filled with luminous material for legibility in low light. Most distinctively, an aperture at 6 o'clock reveals a portion of the movement within, echoing the petticoat-shaped bridge design.
The 40mm stainless steel case measures just 10.95mm in height, with a domed bezel, onion-shaped crown, and curved lateral guards that give it a distinctive baroque character. The case is water-resistant to 50 metres. The signature triple-lug module connects the case seamlessly to the integrated steel bracelet, a design element unique to Lang & Heyne.
Powering the Hektor is the Calibre 33.2, a hand-wound movement developed by Uhren-Werke-Dresden. The movement features 19 jewels, a frequency of 21,600 vph, and a power reserve of 48 hours. Notably, the frame parts and gear train wheels are made from Arcap, a non-magnetic high-tech material that takes on a distinctive sheen when polished, while flat and rotating components such as shafts, screws, and levers are made of steel. The open dial and sapphire crystal case back reveal the beautifully finished movement, showcasing a variety of polishing and brushing techniques.
The Hektor represents Lang & Heyne's distinctive interpretation of the luxury sports watch genre. With its limited production, refined craftsmanship, and unconventional design language, it appeals to collectors seeking something beyond the conventional Swiss offerings.
