Lot Essay

During a flight from Los Angeles to New York, Jim Hodges conceived the idea of breaking a mirror upon returning to his studio. The resulting work, No Dust (1996), became the first of his broken-mirror works, inaugurating an increasingly nuanced exploration of the medium. This pivotal development exemplified Hodges’s approach to artistic creation through the deconstruction and reconsideration of familiar materials, revealing new possibilities through their transformation.
