Charles-Louis-,Auguste Spriman (also recorded as Sprimant or Spriment) was born in Mons in 1737 where he became a master in 1762. However he established himself in Paris as a goldsmith in 1775, when he produced one of his earliest recorded piece, an impressive tureen with dog finial and ram's head handles, now in the Louvre Museum, Paris, OAR 426. By 1777-1778, he was working with Robert-Joseph Auguste, another native of Mons, on the Ekaterinoslav Service commissioned by Empress Catherine the Great.
His surviving work show that he may have specialised in tureens and an identical pair of vegetable dishes and covers dated 1778 is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (48.187.262a, b; Bequest of Catherine D. Wentworth, 1948).
