Lot Essay

'Sammy' Davis was placed (still unofficially) first on distance after completing 1471.65 miles in 24 hours at Le Mans 1927 in a Bentley No.3. A miraculous survivor of the White House debacle, the car was returned to the pits by Davis with a twisted chassis which was then patched up for him to continue only to retire in the early hours of the morning.
