Two ¼-inch reel-to-reel tape recordings of interviews between German freelance journalist Dieter Bröer and three of The Beatles, the first on BASF magnetic tape with Paul McCartney outside the Scala Theatre, Charlotte Street, London in March, 1964 during the making of the film A Hard Day's Night against a backdrop of screaming fans, during the interview McCartney attempts to answer some of the questions in German, various topics covered include:
Paul's hopes for the duration of The Beatle boom, his comments on the restrictions of his private life brought about by his fame, his brief description of the making of their first film and the six new songs involved, the interview terminating with McCartney singing 'Auf Wiedersehn' -- approximate running time 6.24 mins including the interviewer's questions and his translation of McCartney's answers into German
-- the second interview, similarly on BASF magnetic tape, with Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, took place four months later, McCartney and Harrison attempt to answer some of the questions in German, Starr however declined to do so, various topics covered include:
The three Beatles joking about what they ate for breakfast in Germany ..Khrufhchev on toast..., McCartney and Harrison discussing what they liked about working in Germany; McCartney's comments on The Beatles' early careers stating that their first break was with Johnny Gentle in Scotland, their first big money was earned in Germany but their careers' started in Liverpool; Ringo discussing the content of their first film; all three briefly reflect on how fame has affected their private lives and all three give their views on marriage -- approximate running time 10.05 mins. including the interviewer's questions and his translation of their answers into German, both tapes -- To be sold with copyright

Lot Essay

Dieter Bröer recalls the difficulties he had when he went to interview McCartney at The Scala Theatre due to the thousands of screaming fans in front of the theatre. In the end he went up to a policemen and explained his predicament, he had an appointment with The Beatles but coulden't get to them. The policeman escorted him through the crowds to the theatre and the first person he bumped into there was McCartney.
