of rounded oblong form, on leaf-capped lion's paw feet and with a beaded border and two pen rests, the centre engraved with a name "Alice" with crown above, fitted with two similarly-engraved but earlier silver-mounted cut glass inkwells, the inkstand Carrington & Co., London 1923, the inkwells Edward Hutton, London 1885 - length of inkstand 7¼in. (18.50cm.)

Lot Essay

This piece reputedly belonged to Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone.
