The picture shows one of Landseer's favourite dogs, Brutus, surprising a cat in a well stocked larder. It is considered by Richard Ormond to be the original sketch for 'The Larder Invaded which was commissioned by Sir Charles Coote and exhibited at the British Institution in 1822, where it earned a premium of (150 from the Directors.)
