"Tuesday ended on Laleham Common, after two days play and most excellent sport, the grand cricket-match between ... the Hambleton Club and the Gentlemen of Chertsey, which was won by the former by only a single notch, the number brought by them being 218, and by the gentlemen of Chertsey 217. This was the tightest match at cricket ever known, and some thousand pounds were depending."
