[LOGS] A manuscript volume of logs kept by John Manners Yorke on various ships, 1854-58, 2°. The volume opens with the log of H.M.S. Hannibal under the flag of Rear Admiral Sir Houston Stewart, 21st March 1854 to 3rd November 1856, covering two voyages, the first from England to the Baltic, the second from England to the Black Sea with anchorages "off Sebastapol," at Constantinople and Trebizond. Details are given of the movements of allied shipping off Sebastapol, and the log includes three full-page charts of Sebastapol, Kinbourn and the ship's route across the Black Sea. Other logs are of H.M.S. Indus to Bermuda, January to April 1857, also bearing the flag of Rear Admiral Sir Houston Stewart, with a small drawing of the ship; Her Majesty's ship Brilliant, to Trinidad, Grenada, and Halifax, 1st May 1857 to Ferbruary 23rd 1858, with an original watercolour of the ship; and of H.M.S. Euryalus to Malta and other Mediteranean ports, including Alexandria, Jaffa and Beirut, with a full-page chart of the voyage. Bound in contemporary calf, with title "Logs kept by the Honble J. Yorke" stamped in gilt on upper cover.
