An inscription in French on the reverse reads that the sitter was born in Nancy. She was the daughter of M. Nicolas de Meéhul and Mlle. Marguerite de Briel. Her first husband M. Lerquet Commissair Royal at St. Dominque and was beheaded in 1793 leaving two children, Jean and Virginie
