of barrel shape and with a moulded rim and scroll handle, the body decorated with two friezes of horizontal fluting, the front with contemporary presentation inscription: "Arundel Christmas Market 1823, The gift of the Mayor and Burgesses to James Heath for the best fat Sussex Steer", a crest above, maker's mark indistinct, possibly William Bateman, London 1823 - 5in.
