Lot Essay

Wade records that A. H. Bullen "arranged with Messrs. Chapman and Hall, Ltd., to take over 250 copies, his reason being that, as he did not employ a traveller and Chapman and Hall did, they would be able to interest booksellers whom he would not be able to reach. The volumes taken over had special titles with LONDON: CHAPMAN & HALL Limited at foot, and the binding bore CHAPMAN & HALL at foot of spine; otherwise they were identical with those issued from the Shakespeare Head Press."
