E. M. Delafield was the pseudonym of Edmée Elizabeth Monica Dashwood (1890-1943), an author who published her first novel Zella Sees Herself in 1917 whilst living in Exeter during the war. During the 'twenties and 'thirties, Delafield published at least one, sometimes several books each year.
