Lot Essay

several of the watercolours in this album are simply inscribed "bateau pecheur" but the majority have specific titles, often followed by their individual nationalities. As a region, the Mediterranean has produced a surprisingly large number of relatively small vessels and this collection provides a unique glimpse into the evolutionary process of the coastal sailing ship.
