the case with cushion top and elaborately carved overall with foliage and masks, with lion caryatids to the front angles, fret-carved sound panels to the sides, on inverted breakfront base, the gilt-brass dial with silvered rings in the arch for chime/silent, regulation and cime on eight bells/Westminster chimes, foliate spandrels to the silvered Roman chapter ring with matted centre, the triple chain fusee movement with anchor escapement, chimes on four gongs or eight bells, with hour strike on further gong, pendulum holdfast to backplate -- 22¼in. (56.5cm.) high
