the elaborately carved case with cushion top carved with overlapping leaves and centred by a grotesque mask, crowned head caryatids flanking the dial and fret-carved sound panels to the sides, on inverted breakfront base with block feet, the gilt-brass dial with silvered rings to the arch for chime/silent, slow/fast and Westminster/Eight bells, foliate spandrels to the silvered Roman chapter ring with matted centre, the three chain fusee movement with chimes on eight bells or four gongs and hour strike on further gong, pull trip repeat to underside, pendulum holdfast to the backplate -- 21¾in. (55cm.) high
