Lot Essay

Four pairs of daguerreotypes copied in miniature format from half- stereo card originals, probably as a personal experiment and most likely during the mid-nineteenth century when the daguerreotype process was most popular. The form of presentation would tend to suggest that they were intended to work as stereo pairs. The subjects are a view of a triumphal arch, St. Paul's Cathedral and two bas-reliefs.
