This shape was clearly inspired by Clarice's Yo-Yo vase which was introduced in June 1929 but strangely the Conical dredger did not appear until August 1931. This may be because the shape was difficult to cast and also the holes at the top had to be hand-made. The shape has become one of Clarice's most collectable fancies particularly when in pre-August 1931 designs. The Gardenia example in this sale is such a piece.
