A new terrestrial globe by Palmer & Newton 1783
a rare 2¾-inch diameter terrestrial pocket globe, with twelve hand-coloured engraved gores, the continents coloured in outline in red, yellow and green, the oceans with tradewinds shown, New Holland joined with Dimens Land, New Zeeland coloured in yellow and green, showing Captain Cook's tract and Admiral Anson's tract, the antarctic region shown as Ice Sea, the north polar region similarly described (slight crack at the equator, small surface abrasions and small indentation at Pacifick Sea), in simulated fishskin-covered pocket case, the interior lined with a lightly coloured celestial chart, with two brass hooks and eyes

A rare reissue of John Hill's terrestrial globe of 754: Both Newton (founder of the Newton firm) and William Palmer were apprenticed to the instrument maker Thomas Bateman. This pocket globe was their first collaboration in globe production.
