A rare 19th-Century "mother and child" double globe, both terrestrial and celestial made up of twelve engraved delicately hand-coloured paper gores, the celestial (mother) with constellations represented by mythical beasts, figures and scientific instruments, the stars shown by magnitude, dividing in two parts to reveal the terrestrial (child), Europe coloured red, the Americas with orange-red border, Africa and Madagascar with grey-green border, Asia coloured yellow-orange, the Australasia bordered in red (one old neat repair at the equator), contained in its original marbled-paper covered drum-shaped case, the cover with label inscribed DOPPEL GLOBUS DOUBLE GLOBE -- the case 3-inch (7.6cm.) diameter, 2 7/8-inch (7.3cm.) high
