Clock Globe - THE EMPIRE CLOCK, PATENT 19460 [late 19th Century]
An 8-inch diameter terrestrial globe, mounted as a clock, made up of twelve printed paper coloured gores and two polar calottes, the British Empire shown in red, the oceans showing the track of the steam ship route Wellington to Cape Horn and onwards to Rio de Janiero and other steam ship routes and cable distances, the French clockwork mechanism contained in the plinth base, the drive-shaft rising through a moulded column to the limb supporting the horizon circle, divided with an hour scale, with adjustable sun ball and hour pointer (the globe surface with slight abrasions and crack to equator) -- 16-inch (40.6cm.) high
