the brass frame with polar and tropic circles, the tropic and equatorial circles engraved with degree divisions and with punched numerals, the ecliptic with finely engraved signs of the zodiac in silver, with engraved degree scale and punched numerals, the axis with silver sun ball, supported on a parcel-gilt-bronze figure of Hercules, the hero's shoulders draped in the skin of the Nemean Lion, finely moulded and chased, the figure standing on a shaped base, on a ripple moulded stepped ebonised wood stand -- 17-inches (43.2cm.) high
