A set of three fan paintings mounted as kakemono attributed to Mitsuyoshi Tosa (1514-1615) variously depicting seven musicians on the balcony of a pavilion among pine; a figure seated on a terrace playing a samisen watched by four others, a man carrying a lantern in the garden of flowers and rockwork beside a meandering stream; and a courtesan seated on the terrace of a pavilion watched by a courtier from behind a screen, all on gilt painted cloud grounds -- 19in. The scrolls were presented in 1948 to the head of the U.K Liaison Mission, Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers (Colonel N. Read Collins) by the Chief of the Imperial Household (Viscount Matsudaira Keiji). (3)
