Autograph letter signed ("I. Brunel"), to his father, two pages, 4to, Paris, Wednesday 31st July, 1822. With a pen and ink sketch of a paddle steamer below signature.
Written shortly before his return to England after two years education in France. "You will allow me again to think it a little strange that I should receive for the third time two letters by the same post; one to tell me to go to Rouen, and one to come home ... we'll quarrell better about all that next friday week ... The humane Society manual will be finished on Saturday, they send me a proof to-day to see whether I like it ... I have looked at all the reviews both Edinburgh & quarterly which have come since December but I could find no critic on Lord Byron ... This is the last letter and therefore you shall pay it dear. I'm sorry I'm obliged to pay it as far as Calais."
Creased on folds, some soiling and marginal tears.
