MARC ISAMBARD BRUNEL & THE THAMES TUNNEL
A frosted silver medallion in glazed silver mount, the obverse depicting M. I. Brunel ("Sir Isambart Marc Brunel, F. R. S. A."), the reverse showing the tunnel's receding horseshoe archways with legend beneath: "Thames Tunnel 1200 Ft. Lng. Commenced 1824. Broke in 1828. Recommenced 1835. Opened to Pedestrians 1842," 61mm. diam., in contemporary fitted leather case. [Christopher Eimer, British Commemorative Medals, no. 1373].
With a plaster cast of the reduced obverse of the above medal, the reverse with applied manuscript "To My Dear Little Isambard from his Grand-Mama Brunel, Feb. 17, 1843," 43mm. diam. in cardboard case;
and a silver medallion and bronze medal, both commemorating the opening of the Tunnel, the former listing the directors of the Thames Tunnel Company, both cased. [Eimer, no. 1372]. (4)
