A late 19th-Century mahogany medical case,
the lid rising to reveal an enclosed compartment for booklets, prescriptions and other items, the plush-lined flap with four brass catches, the base fitted with numerous compartments for medicines, bottles, pills and other items, with original leather lining and some later marbled-paper replacement, the drawer below similarly modified, with two inset serpentine brass carrying handles, the front of the lid inset with a brass plaque engraved Necessaire Medico Chirurgicale de Voyage Organise par le Docteur Servais de Bruxelles Chevalier de l'Ordre Leopold 1876 -- 23¾in. (60.3cm.) wide
