Lot Essay

Brocktorff was from a family of Maltese Vedutists. The founder of the dynasty Charles Frederick von Broktorff (1775-1850) arrived in Malta from Schleswig Holstein. Brocktorff and his children were active in Malta as lithographers and cartographers for over one hundred years, N. de Piro, The International Dictionary of Artist who painted Malta, 1988, pp. 33-7.
