An early 19th-Century brass theodolite,
signed on the horizontal plate Troughton and Simms London, the telescope with rack and pinion focusing, bubble-level, cross-wire adjusters and lens cap, located in twin supports, the axis with vertical half circle mounted on twin inverted V supports, the silvered scale graduated 90°-0°-50° with vernier, fine-screw adjustment and clamp, the compass with silvered dial, edge-bar needle, the horizontal plate with level and cross-bubble over the chamfered silver circle with two verniers, on four-screw tripod attachment, in the original fitted mahogany case -- 11.1/2in. (29.5cm.) wide
