A magnificent Powell & Lealand No. 1 stand,
with binocular and monocular body-tubes, signed on the arm POWELL & LEALAND 170 Euston Road LONDON, dated 1895, with micrometer eye-piece, rack and pinion coarse focusing, with graduated inner tube, fine micrometer adjustment, double nose-piece, prism box, mechanical stage with micrometer fine adjustment on the fore and aft axis, silvered circular sub-stage plate, adjusted by internal rack gear motion, the sub-stage condenser signed POWELL & LEALAND, similarly adjusted for rotation, the lower sub-stage with iris diaphragm and shade slide, the plano-concave mirror mounted on the lower limb by articulated arm, the massive main body limb moulded and shaped, the axis with two tightening screws, supported on the cast and machined tripod stand, each shaped foot with two cork inserts, the whole instrument with finely lacquered components, with complementary case of accessories containing .1/16th, .1/12th (oil immersion), .1/8th, .1/6th (oil immersion), .1/4, .1/2, 1-inch and 2-inch objectives, six additional eye-pieces including a Powell & Lealand "SEARCHER" No. 2, a Powell and Lealand No. 10, a polarising prism, a prismatic attachment with rotating condenser signed Powell & Lealand Patent 5, two prismatic attachments in leather cases, one signed Powell & Lealand No. 272 PATENT, and other items, an additional monocular body-tube with rack and pinion focusing, signed POWELL & LEALAND R.C.P. & S. LABORATORIES NO. 5, with bull's-eye condenser, in fitted mahogany carrying case, with lacquered-brass swing handle -- 20.1/2in. (52cm.) high
